This is from my column “Details” in the July 2015 Romantic Homes Magazine.
I love my collection of tea trivets. It has taken me well over 20 years to collect all of them. There are so many things to love about trivets: They are beautiful and unique. It is very hard to find two that look exactly the same. They are virtually indestructible – you can throw them in the dishwasher and drop them (yep, I’ve done that). They add beauty and color to your china cabinet and table settings. And my personal favorite – they are affordable. Prices range from $5 to $25 – far less than a single piece of vintage china.Pink and blue are not the most popular colors, and it took years of searching (thank you eBay) to find just the right trivets that would coordinate with my mismatched Limoges china collection. Curious as to the most popular colors? Peach and green!
I have a very large shelf in my dining room where I display my collection.
Tea trivets make awesome coasters for drinks.
Here are a few close-ups of my favorites.
This is my absolute favorite because it is uniquely shaped –
an oval as opposed to the usual round shape.
I love this one for it’s simplicity.
I hope you have enjoyed this history lesson on the tea trivet!
My husband and I are traveling to San Diego for the next week to move our daughter in to her new apartment as she embarks on her career as a Surface Warfare Officer in the Navy.It will be hard to say goodbye to this girl but she has worked so hard and is right where she needs and wants to be in life. And if you can say that as a parent, you know you’ve done something right.
Fair Winds and Following Seas my sweet girl.
