My mom’s birthday was approaching and I wanted to make her something very special. She’s had a difficult year as she had to place my dad in a nursing home and I know how much she is missing him (they’ve been married forever).
I came across this old compact recently on an antique buying trip and knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. It is larger than most compacts, almost twice the size, and had the prettiest floral engravings on top and the clasp still worked. I found a very handsome photo of my father (one I knew my mom would love), printed it out, cut it to size and had a piece of glass cut to go over it. My mom can now put it wherever she wants : closed it’s a beautiful knick-knack, and open, he’s right there by her side. Love you Mom!

Dearest Gay,
What a very powerful, sweet and sentimental post! Love the minimalism in text and just let those great photos speak…
Great job and I'm so sorry for your family; we all are reaching such a similar stage and it never will be easy.
Big hugs to you,
Mariette
